"WE ARE THE WORLD"

“We Are The World”..., a maior união da história do Pop, para recordar.

Ainda hoje sinto o “arrepio” do dia em que ouvi esta música de sucesso pela primeira vez, quando apareceu, em 1985, nos EUA.

Feita por inúmeros artistas que formaram o USA for África, completa 35 anos de sua gravação, na próxima terça-feira, dia 27. 

A velocidade com que a vida se torna passado!

A ideia, em que angariou muitos  milhões de dólares para acções sociais na Etiópia, surgiu um mês depois do projecto Band Aid, responsável pela gravação do compacto “Do They Know It’s Christmas?”, feito pelos artistas ingleses Paul McCartney, Sting, David Bowie, Phil Collins e Boy George.

A música-tema do USA for África foi composta por Michael Jackson e Lionel Richie, a pedido de Quincy Jones, maestro e produtor de “We Are The World. Os compositores estiveram quatro dias “trancados” numa casa até que a canção estivesse pronta. Jones enviou a cada artista participante uma fita com a música em estado bruto e a indicação dos versos que cada um deveria cantar com, apenas, quatro dias antes da gravação.

Entre os mais de 200 artistas que queriam participar, só foram seleccionados 45 nomes como Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Cyndi Lauper, Bruce Springsteen e Tina Turner.

Jamais a África recebeu tanto dinheiro. Porém, para muitos, e também para mim, ”o auxílio internacional é um dos responsáveis pela pobreza do continente”.
